Tongue Thrust

A tongue thrust occurs when there is constant and consistent pressure from the tip or sides of the tongue when swallowing. Constant pressure from resting or incorrectly thrusting the tongue away from the roof of the mouth, may push teeth out of place.

Tongue thrust may also prevent the teeth from biting together; this is known as an open bite. An OMD may also lead to a bite that makes it difficult to chew, and swallow foods properly.

Our myofunctional therapist can work with your dentist, or orthodontist to help guide the muscles and facial structure to activate and function properly.
